Irrigation project will benefit golf course

Crews are on campus burying pipes to bring water from Robertson Lake to Woodberry Forest's nine-hole golf course, varsity baseball's Murrell Field, Finch Track, and soccer fields Palamar Field and Hazel 1. This will be the first time the golf course's fairways will have irrigation, thereby improving the course's playability and appearance.

The lake, which was built through the generosity of Russ Robertson to honor her husband, A. Stuart Robertson ’35, was dedicated in 2011 and provides recreational opportunities such as boating, fishing, and hunting. Once complete, the new irrigation project will supply a sustainable source of water to Woodberry's athletic facilities using a high-efficiency, computer-controlled sprinkler system and weather station. The water pumped from Robertson Lake will also be available for emergency fire suppression.
