Varsity golf loses to British All-star team: 8 1/2 to 3 1/2
Four Woodberry golfers joined with four golfers from St. Anne's Belfield yesterday at Farmington CC for a match against a touring group of British schoolboys. This group, known as the Swifts, has been coming to the US for competitions since 1969, and they first played against Woodberry Forest in 1973.
The format was eight individual singles matches and four fourball (better ball) matches. Each match was worth one point. Unfortunately, inclement weather shortened the match from 18 to 9 holes. The British team showed their class by handling the combined US team, 8.5 to 3.5.
Here are the individual scores and results. Farmington played 3370 yards, par 35 from the back tees.
