Woodberry wins 15th Disharoon Cup

The Tigers hosted the Crusaders from St. Paul's-Baltimore yesterday at Full Cry GC at Keswick Hall in the 15th annual Disharoon Cup golf match. Woodberry won all four games and coasted to a 21-7 win.

There were 28 match points available. Each individual match was worth three points (1 point each for the front nine, back nine, and total 18). At the same time, each pair played a fourball match worth 1 point.

Teeing off in reverse order, senior Charles Hargrove and third former Hughes Edwards set the tone, winning 5.5 of 7 possible points. They were followed by another senior/third form pair, Scott Gullquist and Luke McNabb, who won 6.5 of 7 points.

From there, the Tigers cruised. Fifth form roommates Andrew Jacobs and Woodson Smith found themselves in a battle in their match but prevailed 4-3 to secure the winning points. Senior captain Basil Boyd and fourth former Jack Stein easily dispatched their opponents, 5-2.

The win marks Woodberry Forest's 10th in the series, including 9 of the last 10.
