2016 season wrap up

The varsity golf team had another great season that saw the Tigers earn both the Prep League and State championships.

A few notes on the 2016 team:

 6-3 dual match record
 VPL Champions (29 titles; 5th consecutive, 7 of the last 8)
 VISAA Champions (3 titles; 3 of the last 4)
 Defeated Episcopal High School (4th consecutive; 18 of last 19)


Individual Honors 

Thomas D. Bond Most Valuable Award in Golf -- Andrew Jacobs '18

Sam A. Dougherty Memorial Golf Prize -- Basil Boyd '17

William H. White Golf Trophy -- Peter Knade '16 (third year in a row; third time this has been accomplished)

·       Team Scoring Average (top 6): 37.43 second all time
·       Peter Knade finishes with lowest season scoring average (35.61) breaking Ted Haley ’95 (35.68)
·       Peter Knade finishes with career scoring average 37.26, 8th all time
·       Peter Knade wins the William H. White Golf Trophy for the third time, joining Ted Haley ’95 and Johnny Kyger ’09 as the only three-time winners
·       Peter Knade is second WFS golfer to earn All Prep for four years (Harley Garrison, 1984-87)
·       Peter Knade and Basil Boyd are the only two WFS golfers to earn three All-State honors
·       Woodson Smith 37.85 is 14th in career scoring average
·       Andrew Jacobs career scoring average 38.05 is 18th all time
·       Lamar Mallory career scoring average 38.76 is 33rd all time
·       Basil Boyd career scoring average 39.08 is 36th all time
·       Teddy Garner finishes with career scoring average 39.20, 38th all time
·       Teddy Garner is one of 15 WFS golfers to earn All Prep three times
·       6th consecutive year with three All-Prep golfers
·       5th consecutive year with at least two All-State golfers
