Varsity golf loses to British Swifts

On Saturday March 31, the British Swifts golf team made their biennial visit to Woodberry Forest and came away with a 373-388 victory at Keswick Hall GC, hosted by John McAlister '94.  Senior Andrew Jacobs led the Tigers with a 73 (+1). After the match, the eight students and two chaperones had a barbecue dinner at the Hogans and spent the night with various hosts on campus and in Orange. They concluded their visit to VA with a home cooked breakfast the next morning to send them onto Columbia CC, their next stop on their two-week tour.

Senior Woodson Smith traveled to the UK last summer as part of the American Swifts team, the sixth Woodberry golfer to do so. Coach Hogan traveled as a chaperone in 2013 and again in 2015 along with JV golf coach John Amos. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Swifts tour.
